This course is every Wednesday morning for 12 weeks, starting on the 17th June 2026.
We’ll start by exploring how to design your own clothes, covering techniques like dart manipulation, pleating, adding collars and cuffs, and creating frills and flounces. You’ll learn how to modify a basic bodice, skirt, and trouser block to suit your personal style. Next, we’ll focus on why accurate measurements are crucial and teach you how to take them properly. Step by step, you’ll develop a basic body block tailored to your unique shape, which may require making several mock-ups to get the fit just right.
Pattern drafting is a craft that takes patience and practice—it isn’t a shortcut to buying ready-made clothes. However, once you’ve perfected your custom block, you’ll open up endless opportunities to create and design your own wardrobe.
Please note: Depending on your body shape, it might take longer than twelve weeks to complete your block.
